Best sunset spots in Stockholm for watching and photography

If you're visiting Stockholm, you’ll definitely want to seek out the best places to watch and photograph the sunset. In this post, I’ll share my top sunset-viewing spots in Stockholm. Even if you’re not a photographer, these locations are must-visit destinations in Stockholm for their stunning views.

Remember, sunsets in Stockholm vary significantly by season. In winter, the sun sets as early as 3 p.m., while summer brings endless daylight, and the sun sets around 10 pm.. Check this website to find daily sunrise and sunset times in Stockholm.

Evert Taubeterrassen (Riddarholmen)

Riddarholmen, a small island next to Gamla Stan, offers one of Stockholm’s best sunset viewpoints. From Evert Taubeterrassen, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Riddarfjärden and the iconic City Hall (Stadshuset). At sunset, the building’s silhouette creates a striking scene against the sky.

To get here, take the subway to Gamla Stan, follow signs to Riddarholmen, and walk to Evert Taubeterrassen. Settle on a bench or set up your camera on a tripod for the perfect shot. If visiting in winter, dress warmly—it gets windy and cold!

Monteliusvägen

One of Stockholm’s most scenic spots, Monteliusvägen offers a spectacular view of the city. This uphill path is worth the climb, whether you visit at sunset or during the day. It’s a popular spot with both tourists and locals.

A year-round favorite, Monteliusvägen offers unforgettable views—and on rare occasions, you might even glimpse the Northern Lights! Yes, it’s possible to see them from Stockholm, and I was lucky enough to experience it from this very spot.

Skinnarviksberget

For those seeking height, Skinnarviksberget is the highest natural point in Stockholm. It’s a local favorite for picnics and sunset-watching on clear days. Though less crowded than Monteliusvägen, reaching this spot requires a bit of a climb.

The panoramic view stretches across Kungsholmen, Gamla Stan, and Stockholm City Hall. In winter, be cautious—snow and ice can make the rocky paths slippery.

Skeppsholmen

Skeppsholmen, a picturesque island, provides beautiful sunset views of Gamla Stan. It’s an ideal location for silhouette photos of Stockholm’s historic skyline.

On the opposite side of the island, you’ll find a charming view of Gröna Lund, Stockholm’s amusement park. During a vibrant sunset, the sky often transforms into soft pastel pinks, creating a magical atmosphere for photography.
