Getting from Stockholm’s airports to the city center

Stockholm is served by four airports, all offering various transport options to the city center, from quick connections to more budget-friendly choices. Here’s a breakdown of how to get to downtown Stockholm from each airport.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Located about 40 kilometers north of central Stockholm, Arlanda Airport offers several transport options depending on your budget and time constraints. Do you prefer speed or affordability?

Arlanda Express

The Arlanda Express is the fastest way to reach Stockholm Central Station (T-Centralen). The platform is directly under the arrival terminals, with trains departing every 15 minutes most of the day. The journey takes only 18 minutes. While convenient, it’s pricey—a single ticket costs 340 SEK. However, check online for a group discount, because you already receive a discount when traveling with 2 person.

Flygbussarna Airport Coaches

The Flygbussarna Airport Coaches provide a cheaper alternative than the Arlanda Express. Buses run every 10–15 minutes and connect Arlanda to the City Terminal near Central Station. Travel time is around 40 minutes. A single ticket costs 129 SEK, so it’s more economical but less comfortable than the express train.

Municipal Transport (Cheapest Option)

If you have an SL travel card (for example and 72-hour ticket) you can get to the city center without extra costs. Take a bus from Arlanda to Märsta Station, then switch to the commuter train (pendeltåg) to T-Centralen. Total travel time is about 1 hour. If you’re already using an SL card for 24, 72 hours, or a week, this option won’t cost anything additional. Visit SL’s website for up-to-date schedules.

Other bus services, like Flixbus, also operate from Arlanda.

Bromma, Skavsta, and Västerås Airports

Flygbussarna operates convenient bus services from Bromma, Skavsta, and Västerås airports, with schedules aligned to flight times. Travel times are:

  • Bromma Airport: 20 minutes

  • Skavsta Airport: 80 minutes

  • Västerås Airport: 80 minutes

Taxi Services

Taxis are available at Arlanda and Bromma airports, with travel times of approximately 40 minutes from Arlanda and 15 minutes from Bromma to the city center. Credit cards are widely accepted. However, Sweden’s taxi fares are unregulated, so prices can vary significantly between companies. To avoid surprises, opt for trusted firms like Taxi Stockholm.

Making the Best Choice

Selecting your transport depends on personal preferences. If I’m in a rush or carrying heavy luggage, I choose the Arlanda Express. When traveling light and with more time, the municipal option offers great savings.

I hope this guide helps you navigate your way from Stockholm’s airports to the city with ease!
